What Dymista Nasal Spray is used for:

Dymista Nasal Spray is used to relieve seasonal allergy symptoms of the nose such as stuffyrunny nose, itching, sneezing and post-nasal drip. It contains two active substances: azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate. 

  • Azelastine hydrochloride belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. Antihistamines work by preventing the effects of substances such as histamine that the body produces as part of an allergic reaction – thus reducing symptoms of allergic rhinitis.  
  • Fluticasone propionate belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids which reduces inflammation.

How does it work?

  • Dymasta Nasal  spray contains the active ingredient fluticasone furoate, which is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid (or steroid). Corticosteroids are hormones produced naturally by the adrenal glands that have many important functions, including control of inflammatory responses.
  • Fluticasone is a synthetic corticosteroid and is administered by nasal spray to decrease inflammation in the nasal passages.
  • People who suffer from nasal allergies (allergic rhinitis), such as hay fever, tend to experience a variety of symptoms as a result of their allergy, including a runny, itchy or blocked nose, sneezing and sinus discomfort. These symptoms are a result of inflammation in the nasal passages.
  • Dymista Nasal Spray is used to relieve the symptoms of moderate to severe seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis if the use of either intranasal antihistamine or corticosteroid alone is not considered sufficient. Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis are allergic reactions to substances such as pollen (hayfever), house mites, moulds, dust or pets.

How to use Dymista nasal spray:

  • Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using azelastine/fluticasone nasal spray and each time you get a refill. Follow the instructions on how to properly use this medication. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Gently blow your nose before using this drug. Shake the container gently before each use. Follow the instructions on how to properly prime the bottle if you are using it for the first time or if you have not used it for 14 days or more.
  • Use this medication in the nose as directed by your doctor, usually twice a day in both nostrils. Do not spray it in your  eyes or mouth. If this medication gets in your eyes, flush them thoroughly with water.
  • Do not increase your dose or use it more frequently than directed since this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day.
  • Clean the applicator regularly. Keep track of the number of sprays used from the container. Discard the container after you have used the number of sprays specified on the manufacturer's package.
  • You may feel the drug start to work as soon as 30 minutes after the first dose, but it may take several days before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

What does Dymista spray contain?

The active substances are: azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate. Each g of suspension contains 1000 micrograms azelastine hydrochloride and 365 micrograms fluticasone propionate. Each actuation (0.14 g) delivers 137 micrograms azelastine hydrochloride (= 125 micrograms azelastine) and 50 micrograms fluticasone propionate. The other ingredients are: Disodium edetate, glycerol, microcrystalline cellulose, carmellose sodium, polysorbate 80, benzalkonium chloride , phenylethyl alcohol and purified water.

Dymista Nasal Spray is a white, homogenous suspension. Dymista Nasal Spray comes in an amber coloured glass bottle fitted with a spray pump, applicator and a protective cap.
