National Personal Safety Day will be held this year on Saturday 7th October 2017 and is an annual event. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of simple ways to keep safe and avoid violence helping others to feel more confident and safe. This is organised by The Suzy Lamplugh Trust and what they do is highlight practical ways that anyone can avoid violence and aggression, so they can live safer, more confident lives.

Go Sober for October is a fundraising campaign aimed at challenging social drinkers to change their habits for a month and make some healthier lifestyle changes. The purpose of Sober for October is to encourage people to drink alcohol responsibly and stick to the recommended daily guidelines for the rest of the year. Go Sober for October involves 31 days without alcohol and instead of wasting money on buying alcohol you end up raising money for people living with cancer they partner with Macmillan Cancer Support for a positive cause in helping others suffering from cancer.

There are between 4000 to 6000 diagnosed genetic disorders. It is estimated that 1 in 25 children are affected by a genetic disorder and therefore 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed in the UK each year. Jeans for Genes Day is the annual fundraising campaign for Genetic Disorders UK, the national charity supports individuals and families affected by a genetic disorder.

An article by Richard Vize published in the Guardian on Friday September 8th 2017, makes some interesting statements regarding the adoption (or lack of it) in NHS and primary healthcare. Vize commentates on the UK wide inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), who have vowed inspect all online pharmacies by the end of the calendar year. Explaining the Electronic Prescription Service Information for patients and carers in England. This new service lets your GP practice send your prescription electronically to the dispenser you nominate to get your medication or appliance from – without the requirement for paper in some cases. This means there is a reduced need for people with repeat prescriptions to contact their GP practice just to collect a prescription form.

The imminent arrival of NHS electronic repeat prescription services

Raising awareness of the proposed Electronic Repeat Prescriptions (ERP) changes is very important but it seems many people are uninformed. Online YouGov research found 50% of all adults were unaware electronic prescriptions are now available at most GP surgeries in England. The survey comes as the NHS finds itself under acute pressure to slash costs through the adoption and utilisation of modern digital services.

A record number of the UK population are living with Type 2 diabetes. This is over twice the number of people compared with 1996. Unfortunately, many of us will experience potentially preventable complications as a result of diabetes, frankly because they are unaware and do not have enough knowledge about the condition and how they can manage it. On a positive note, if you are at risk Type 2 diabetes, there are plenty of little alterations you can make to prevent the onset of diabetes in the first instance. The first thing to do is find out if you are at risk.
